Works and Production
Bandstand is originally produced by director Andy Blankenbuehler with Beth Leavel, Corey Cott, and Laura Osnes as the musical's stars. In September 2014, a Bandstand workshop was held in New York City featuring the stars mentioned above. The musical had its premiere in October 2015 in Millburn at the Paper Mill Playhouse. The show then made a Broadway opening in April 2017 and closed in September 2017.
The musical was later renamed to The Bandstand. Before its official opening on October 18, 2015, the musical had its preview in Millburn, NJ, at the Paper Mill Playhouse on October 8, 2015. Director Andy Blankenbuehler choreographed the musical with stars such as Beth Level, Laura Osnes, and Corey Cott playing the role of Mrs. Adams, Julia, and Donny, respectively.
The musical again had its Broadway premiere in April 2017 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre as Bandstand and closed in September 2017. The cast includes Geoff Packard, James Nathan Hopkins, Brandon James Ellis, Joe Carroll, Alex Bender, and Beth Leavel. The musical made 166 regular performances and 24 previews before closing.
Awards and Nominations
In 2017, the show won the Chita Rivera Award under the category of Outstanding Choreography in a Broadway Show. It is also the winner of the Drama Desk Award under the category of Outstanding Choreography in 2017. The show also received the Tony Award under Best Choreography in 2017.
