Kinky Boots musical is adapted from the 2005 British film under the same name. The musical drew inspiration from a true story of Charlie Price, who struggles to bring his shoe factory back to business by producing kinky boots by collaborating with drag queen Lola.
After the origin of the show in 2006, the production team was compiled by 2010. The original production of Kinky Boots had its premiere in Chicago in October 2012 at the Bank of America Theatre. Jerry Mitchell acts as the director as well as the choreographer, while cast members include Stark Sands as Charlie and Billy Porter as Lola. The Broadway debut was made on April 4, 2013, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre before making previews starting on March 3, 2013. The musical started a national tour in the US in 2014, which ended on April 7, 2019.
