Skillet was formed in 1996 in Memphis, Tennessee, by John Cooper and Ken Steorts.
John was a vocalist for his former band Seraph, and Ken was involved with Urgent Cry. They both met while touring and eventually decided to form Skillet after their respective band got disbanded.
Skillet rose to fame with their hit single "monster," which holds the record in the Christian music history as the most significant digital single. The song accumulated over 2.6 million sales, and RIAA gave it a 2x platinum certification.
Skillet released a total of ten studio albums, including Skillet in 1996, Hey You, I Love Your Soul in 1998, Invincible in 2000, Ardent Worship in late 2000, Aljen Youth in 2001, Collide in 2003, Comatose in 2006, and Awake in 2009 among others. Out of the ten albums, Collide and Comatose earned them Grammy nominations.
Many artists have joined the band and left it with only founder John Cooper still playing for the band. The current band members are John Cooper and his wife Korey Cooper, Jen Ledger, and Seth Morrison on lead guitars.
